URGENT new mast site found for HU16

EE removed a mast in Cottingham, East Yorkshire in December, since the landowner no longer wanted a mast on their property.

This has left many EE customers with no signal whatsoever and I presume that EE are in need of a new site.

As the local Ward Councillor, I approached the Council to see if we can offer an alternative site.

The Council do have a nearby site available and would like to discuss this with EE. Can someone please contact me and I will pass on the contact details.

Hi Ali,

Thank you for getting back to me, regarding a possible site for a replacement EE mast.

The suggested site is at the Worklink Learning Resource Centre on Eppleworth Road, which is maybe 600 metres from the previous mast location at Keldgate Farm.

This Worklink site can be found in the area around: What3Words ///helps.answer.voice

My contact details are shown below.

Please let me know if this Council owned site looks to be of interest. If so, I can put you in direct suggest contact with the Council’s Principal Commercial Surveyor to discuss the practical aspects and terms. He is already aware of the situation and would welcome a discussion on the subject.

If this site is not suitable, I have also reached out to the Castle Hill Hospital, whose site is almost directly opposite Keldgate Farm, asking if they might be interested in hosting a mast. I am still waiting on a response and will let you know if I hear anything.

I should also mention that Cottingham appears very badly served for all mobile connections, so I hope that EE might consider further expanding the mast network in the area.

I possible, I would be grateful if you can also provide your direct email contact details, so we can correspond directly, rather than via this Community page, particularly if I am sharing contact details of Council officers.

Thanks and kind regards
Phil

Hi @Cllr_Phil

Thanks for getting back to me with the details,

The reply come through on the public forum, so I've redacted your reply, however we have a record of the details you have given.

I've passed this on to our team to review.
Once they investigated the proposed site they'll be in touch. It can take some time to look at the initial feasibility, so don't worry if you don't hear back immediately.

It's a great suggestion and very helpful for the improvement of services in the area.

I was exploring two possible sites for a new EE mast in Cottingham for you.

1.  Worklink Centre, Eppleworth Road

This is a Council owned site and they would be willing to hold talks to discuss siting a mast.

2. Castle Hill Hospital site

This is also adjacent to Eppleworth Road and I received their response today, as below.

We do have some telecommunications equipment on the roof of the Tower Block at HRI for which we used to receive a good income from the tenants. Since the introduction of the Communications Code this has reduced significantly, and the agreements and access requests take quite a lot of management and a very restrictive for the trust. For this reason and to protect the site if we were to ever put a helipad back or if there is any future development I would be reluctant to recommend installing a mast on site. Do you have further details of the size of the mast etc.?’

I saw that EE have withdrawn the application for a mast just up the hill at Skidby, so presume you are still looking for a site.

i would appreciate an update from your end.

Kind regards

Phil

Hi @Cllr_Phil

Thanks for the update.

I will pass this information on to the relevant team and ask them to provide you with a direct update as soon as possible.

Linzi

Thank you. Much appreciated.

Phil

Hi Linzi,

Sorry, but I am still waiting for someone to contact me. In the meantime Three Telecoms are busy erecting a new mast on Green Lane, Cottingham which will likely capture all the EE customers who currently have no signal whatsoever.

Mine is an offer of assistance, with an offer of contacts at two possible sites for an EE mast.

Kind regards

Phil

Is it this one?

If so, the good news is EE and Three share many masts, and this will be also be a shared one carrying both networks.

Yes indeed, thanks.

Do you know if this will also improve the performance of Smart Meters in the area?

Thanks again

Phil
