Phone only shows up to 2g

Hi EE world,

I have an odd issue where my phone only shows up to and including 2g.  To be honest, it does show 3g very briefly, if you hold the phone up and wave it about, but then almost as quickly falls back to 2g.  I've been using it for around 1.5 years, with no issues whatsoever.

I checked online for problems in my area, but nope.  I check one of those sites where people report EE issues and there were a few hundred.  So, on Sunday I contacted EE Network support and I told them I'd restarted, that I'd reset my APN, that nothing has changed on my phone, that I'd powered off completely, and back on again.  Today, Tuesday, EE network support responded to tell me theres nothing wrong and that they suggest I restart my phone...  Not helpful...

Anyway...

Other than resetting my phone back to factory, which may not resolve this, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Any ideas?  I have a Huawei P9 on Android 8.

Thank you EE world.  :0)

Paul.

Perhaps it's best here to start from scratch. How long have you had this problem for? And does it happen in all locations or just specific ones?

Are you on pay-monthly or PAYG?

Do you know any friends or relatives who also use EE - do they have similiar issues in the same locations?

Hi bristolian,

How are you? Thanks for your response.

I've had it for just a few days. I use wi-fi at home a lot, so may not have noticed when it started acting up, but no more than a few days I'm sure. Wherever I go in my area I see the same exact issue.

I am on PAYG.

I don't know anyone else with EE, so couldn't say, but I did go on one of those independent sites where others can report issues, and there were a few hundred specific data reported issues within 24 hours of my viewing, many around or near my; when I looked at the map it showed current pins in my vicinity.

All this does make me consider where the issue lays, but I won't say yet as I want to see if you concur. 🙂

Thanks again,

Paul.

If you've only had this issue for a few days, I would recommend using the "check status" option on the EE coverage tool

This site has access to the EE faults database so is far more reliable for local issues than third party "is my service down" type sites, and also has an option for reporting suspected problems that aren't listed.

Any known issues have a facility to register for updates by text or email.

Hi,

How are you? Thanks for your response.

Yep, I tried the EE coverage site, which said there were no reported issues, but I assumed at the time, before I added this post, that every fault starts with the first to report it, which is why I reported my issue as you suggested; this is what I referred to in my original post as being told to 'restart' my phone.

Thanks,

Paul.

Hi all, how are you?

Well, would you believe it...  A few moments ago I decided to go through my embedded mobile data settings, bearing in mind I haven't accessed them for many months, and I found a setting that screamed at me...!

I don't get it because I've not, and never have, changed this setting...!!!

Well, it appears to be fixed...  I am seriously scratching my head right now...

Thanks everyone.

Paul.

Glad you got it sorted. Sometimes the simple things catch us out.

Indeed, although, last week it was fine as I was streaming music as I was walking, so I have to wonder how it changed... Lol
