No signal

My phone is always set to Wi-Fi, and I can't dial out. Any more ideas???
EE is able to get through though - how does that happen? Even when they did, the line was breaking up and crackly, and kept dropping. That was Saturday, and outside. Absolutely nothing indoors.

Been there, done that. Wi-Fi is always set 'on' and finds Wi-Fi automatically.  CS tried but, I'm sorry, this is not my problem, and there is no getting around it.
Even the CS line lost connection a few times, and when we were connected was barely audible, crackly and broken.

These last 2 posts have been split off from their previous thread regarding a localised coverage issue.

Does your phone show the WiFi-calling indicator when connected to your router?

Are you using Apple or Android?

I don't think asking customers to do more admin is the right approach. It's a very 'helpdesk' approach which makes their life easier, but not that of the end user.

Starting a separate thread would mean that EE employees reviewing this thread will miss the impact this outage is having on people. And that's important context.

Issues with WiFi-calling could occur anywhere, whether in an area with a service outage or just generally poor coverage - the posts split off are not area-specific but are regarding your WiFi-calling issues in particular.

The offer is there to assist with your WiFi-calling issues and potentially identify a cause for it - It's entirely upto you whether you want to pursue that or not.

Sorry, maybe we're on the wrong wavelength, but I can't use any of the suggested wi-fi solutions because 1) my (android) phone is already configured to always connect to Wi-Fi calling and is set to seek a signal automatically, and 2) because of no network signal, I can't dial out! There is no solution until the network signalling is fixed - even with a temporary fix if there is such a thing.
As far as I know, it's only EE in Blakenham/ Claydon area that is affected.

The very premise of WiFi-calling is that it enables full use of a phone for calls & texts without needing any network coverage.

Your description of how you believe your phone is configured, could be interpreted different ways, so perhaps some background info would be useful.

I would assume you have WiFi-calling enabled, and your home router set to auto-connect. WiFi-calling is designed to generally prefer a mobile network signal whenever possible, and to only kick in when coverage is either too minimal or non-existent - if you are on the edge of coverage, this can sometimes cause some issues. There's two potential remedies for this...

1: Some recent Android phones have an option to choose between "WiFi-preferred" & "mobile-preferred". Mobile preferred should usually be better, but if the option is available in  your phone's call-settings, try using "WiFi-preferred" and it will only use mobile network coverage when there is no WiFi available.

2: If the above is not available, try enabling flight mode (to disable all network radios and thus no coverage) and then enable WiFi manually.

Either of the above should force your calls to use WiFi and provide some stability when indoors.

I'm shutting off the phone if no there's no service. No point in wasting the battery.
