I've just received a text, which came from "Unknown" stating "Great news! We've just updated some of your network settings, please restart your phone to make sure it's up to date".
Is this a legitimate text from ee, or a scam?

Good morning everyone,
Thanks for all the posts and I am sorry for the confusion and concern caused by the SMS message some of you received recently.
I have highlighted this thread internally and can provide an explanation.
This SMS is a legitimate SMS which has been sent by EE. We identified that on some devices the SMS appeared to come from an unknown number rather than coming from EE. Once this was identified no more SMS were sent until the issue was addressed. This issue has now been fixed so any SMS will now confirm that it comes from EE.
Cheers
Sean

Without seeing a screenshot of this message, or the exact text of the message being posted here, it's tricky to advise for certain.
That said, it's quite likely this is a genuine message - scammers would have nothing to gain from you restarting your phone, which is a perfectly safe thing to do.

@Brookesy1878 Is that what’s app and or text messages ? What’s app uses data from your allowance text messages don’t use your data allowance.
