Network Settings Text

Richard1962

I've just received a text, which came from "Unknown" stating "Great news! We've just updated some of your network settings, please restart your phone to make sure it's up to date".

Is this a legitimate text from ee, or a scam?

I had the same message come through, I’ve ignored it and have had a text from EE Saying the same thing 2 days later

My wife's phone received exactly the same text. It appeared in the same message conversation as hundreds of other messages from EE going back to to 2015, so we had no doubt that it was genuine and restarted her phone. The sky has not fallen in, as I didn't think it would by simply rebooting.

The sender in the conversation thread is "EE", not "unknown" as some report, but there is no number in info.

My phone has not received the same message, so far.

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for all the posts and I am sorry for the confusion and concern caused by the SMS message some of you received recently.

I have highlighted this thread internally and can provide an explanation.

This SMS is a legitimate SMS which has been sent by EE.  We identified that on some devices the SMS appeared to come from an unknown number rather than coming from EE.  Once this was identified no more SMS were sent until the issue was addressed.  This issue has now been fixed so any SMS will now confirm that it comes from EE.

Cheers

Sean

@Sean_D Hmm….except I rang EE (see my earlier post) and they have NO record of having sent me a message!

Hi @Degurosa,

What was the full content of the text you received?

James

Hi @James_B

Heres a screenshot of the messages I received. You’ll see that the ones supposedly from EE came through on their genuine account.DB3F9C9B-A5AD-4F3F-9AB6-32076615A333.jpeg369EB3F8-0F3B-464D-BD48-37C6ADA72A65.jpeg

Hi @Degurosa,

The content of the text and it being sent when the 'unknown sender' issue was identified indicate this was a genuine message from EE.

James

Hi @James_B

Except EE tell me they didn’t send it. They also said that unless I’d contacted them with phone issues they’d have had no reason to send it.  EE were adamant that they’d not sent any messages to my phone this year.

@Degurosa : Would a CS agent know for sure what the system is auto sending out?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Hi @Degurosa,

I'm very sorry that you were given incorrect information when you called. Network settings updates are routinely sent out automatically when needed, not just when a Customer Care agent has made a change to your account.
