5G Standalone iPhone 16 Pro

Good afternoon

I recently upgraded my plan to full works sim only. As part of full works is access to 5G standalone signal which is key feature.

I was advised by EE sales rep on the phone to download an esim from the EE app. This process for me did not work and I was left without a mobile signal due to the new esim not activating. This resulted in having to go to an EE store for a physical sim card.

I have the new physical sim and the 5G standalone toggle is still greyed out.

Is there any idea on how I can enable this?

Thanks

It seems I may had jumped the gun too quickly! I received a text message from EE this afternoon saying network settings were being updated and to restart my phone.

This seems to have enable the greyed out toggle and 5G standalone is now active. I don't live in a 5G SA area but with being frequent visitor to Edinburgh and London, it is useful to have.

Thanks 👍

Hi @jdjx98,

Welcome to the Community!

We don't wnt you missing out on 5G Standalone, so I'd love to take a look into this. Can I just check what kind of phone you're using?

Did you upgrade from a Phone contract to a SIM Only contract by any chance?

If so then it is possible that your new plan may not have activated yet, as while you can place the order in your last 30 days, the minimum term of the phone contract must expire before the SIM Upgrade will take effect.

The physical SIM that you have (and even the one that you had before) is definitely compatible, and the option is there on the phone. That narrows it down to either the plan not taking effect yet, or the network settings not being updated on EE's side to add the 5G Standalone flag.

It will either be waiting for the plan to take effect (which you will just have to wait for the date your old plan was to run out), or if you are already on the new plan: call EE and ask them to perform a Network Refresh on your number which should push updated network settings through.
