Hi I’m from Exmouth the local mast serving my home (cell ID 4253953) uses band 3 1800mhz 20mhz of bandwidth and uses 4G with 5G NSA on site also. The site has not been performing at all over 5G producing only 95mbps under perfectly fine line of sight whislt the 4G is able to achieve 240mbps from the same site. As 5G is the next standard of technology I would expect it was faster then 4G. I’ve tried flagging this to the appropriate teams with no support or being taken seriously I’m taking to the community to look for help and hopefully have the speed and throughput sorted on the 5G side of things thanks

Hi @hjfollett1
Welcome to the community. Thanks for feeding this back.
Those are pretty fast 4G speeds. Are these speeds 4G and 5G speeds similar when you test through different devices? Which test are you running?
Chris

The Mast you mentioned (4253952) is serving 4G band 3 (Dinan Way / Marley Road) but it appears this Mast is 4G Only and is not serving 5G.
The nearest 5G Mast from your Area appears to be near Pound Close, Withycombe, so it could just be a case of your getting a good 4G Signal in your Area but picking up a much weaker 5G Signal further away from you.

Hi @EssexBoyEE @thank you for your response sadly most sources haven’t updated the coverage but the same cell is providing 5G services but for some reason at very slow speeds
From the screenshot here I understand I’m further away but the speeds are the exact same by the mast

Hi Chris thank you for your response sadly testing on different devices hasn’t made an issue I understand most people would be happy with the 4G speeds and leave letting anyone know about the 5G but as a customer I would hope this was faster

I dont understand what you mean by most sources, looking at the EE Coverage Map your Site does not appear to be serving 5G Service.
Have EE recently Upgraded the Mast in question, if it was just a 4G Single Band it will probably just be a Street Monopole Mast.
Cant see the Pic as it needs to be approved, can you measure the 4G and 5G Signals in your Area (RSRP and SINR)?

From a cursory check of your locality, I think @EssexBoyEE has pretty much advised the detail already.
You do appear to be on the edge of 5G service, and your phone is probably choosing a stronger (better quality) 4G cell over a weaker 5G-one.
Both the 4G & 5G networks are still being rolled out, but 4G is vastly more expansive, any 5G phone will fallback to 4G as yours seems to be doing.

Hi sorry for delay in update I have confirmed with EE themselves and my own proof that I am sat right next to a 5G site. The issue is it is being disrupted and has issues due to a building site

Hi @hjfollett1
Thanks for the update.
When you spoke to our Tech Gurus, did they advise if this being looked into by our network team?
Leanne.
