Looking for an IoT SIM plan \ data package

Hi there.

I'm looking to enable my IoT device with mobile data which would consume minimum data and requires no text and no calls. Ideally 100MB prepaid or so for a reasonable price. Or to pay per MB with no data plan with automatic top up. Does EE offer anything like this for non-business customers? Couldn't find anything reasonably priced for my needs and this was the lowest I could get:

£10 EE PAYG 4G Multi SIM with 8GB data, unlimited text messages, 500 minutes
Drop minutes and texts to 0, reduce 8Gb to 100MB should be worth something like £1-2 per month, but there are no plans or packages like this. Are there better option at EE?
Would prefer EE due to the mobile network coverage in the area.

The cheapest EE PAYG is £10 pm & contract would be at least as much.

O2 does a PAYG for £5 pm with 500 MB data & 20 MMS. Called the All Rounder Bolt-On.

Hey there @AntonD.

Welcome to the EE Community 😊

If you're not in need of calls and texts with this connection, we do have a few pay as you go Data Only SIMs that you can look at too.

These come with either 30 or 90 day options, and you can find more details here:

Hi @Peter_W , thanks for your reply.

Indeed I saw these Data only SIMs and in fact I even ordered one which is

200MB30 days£1

However, upon receiving couldn't activate it and even calling the support I was told that I cannot get this option, it's simply not available, "sorry". So contradictory and frustrating information. That's how I ended up in this forum as a last resort having a SIM at hand and with no suitable plans or packs to apply to it. If you know of a way to apply this 30 day 200MB option, I'd be grateful as that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Best, Anton.

Thanks for explaining those extra detail here @AntonD.

I've reached out to double check these options at our end.

How were things left with you when you spoke with our team, and did they offer any alternatives?

Peter

Hi @Peter_W ,

Well, as mentioned above, I was told these data only sim plans were not available and only solution they were offering was some MBs as extra data for 1-2 days for several £s, which clearly was not suitable as a permanent plan for my IoT device. The other option was the £10 plan for 30 days having all txts and minutes included, which is a waste of resource for the purpose. No other options were provided.

Cheers @AntonD, did you pay up front for this SIM and the credit it still active on it, or are you yet to top-up yet?

Peter

That’s the weird part of it. When purchasing I chose the £1 200MB 30d plan online which obviously costs £1 and was paid during the checkout. Upon receiving the sim and trying to activate, I discovered 0 in my account and the operator to my question “given I cannot activate the option purchased, where did the £1 go” answered “you paid £1 for the sim”, which is of course ridiculous since buying and new sim with a plan, you always get the sim for free and just paying the plan price, but given it’s just £1 I didn’t want to argue more as discussing tariffs options was my priority during that call.
Later I topped up the account with £5 thinking that I may not be seeing all options while the account was 0, but that unfortunately didn’t help to reveal more alternatives.
