4G mini Wi-Fi router

Healybeat

I live in rural Scotland very close to an EE mast. I bought the 4G mini router based on the fact that my EE work phone (I phone SE) gets a download speed of 100Mbs nearly all the time. The mini wi fi is nowhere near that speed but fluctuates massively from food to very poor. Devices drop from the network all the time. I also can’t use it for my work laptop at all due to a VPN issue. Any ideas how I can improve this? Or what he issue might be?

Hi @Healybeat

Thanks for coming here 🙂

I'm sorry to hear this is happening with your router, could you check your postcode on our coverage checker and hit 'check status' please? It will let you know if we're aware of any problems in the area.

If nothing is showing, could you try the router SIM card in the phone, do you get the same speeds?

What happens when you try and connect to the VPN?

Leanne.

Hi Leanne

I tested the SIM card from the router in my phone and I was able to connect various devices (including my work laptop, using the vpn) and the speed was very good approx 60Mbs.
There was one other phone that wouldn’t connect and I don’t know why.
It looks like the router is the issue. EE website says the signal should be excellent inside and outside the house. I know there haven’t been any issues with my local mast because this was checked by EE.

I wonder if the router was affected by a sudden power outage because that’s when it seemed to get worse. It has been very reliable
