wifi dongle sim card issues

I have a 4G Wifi device, approx 7 years old, supports 4G.

I have been successfully using it with a SMARTY microsim, no bother at all.

Im about to go to an area with no 3 network coverage so I picked up a PAYG EE sim and paid for 25GB of data.

I activated the SIM in my iphone, all seems ok but when I insert it into my dongle it fails to connect. I went to an EE shop for advice and got short shrift " not our dongle/too old/ sim bought at a 3rd party".

Fact is my smarty sim works fine but the EE one doesnt. But The EE sim is ok in my Iphone. I could use the phone to hotspot instead but i'd rather use the dongle. Any ideas?

@SD_southcoast   Is that dongle unlocked to use any network.     The sim works so it’s the dongle that has the issue.

@SD_southcoast : What does the mobile router say its Connection Status is?

What does texting AL to 150 from your no. fully report verbatim (it is free)?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

When the SIM is in the dongle the status is Disconnected.

When the sim is in the Iphone its working.

The Dongle is unlocked, 4G enabled and works with my smarty sim and a Giffgaff sim, both contract. The EE sim is PAYG

Yes the Dongle is unlocked and SMARTY and GIFFGAFF sims work in it

Sounds like a bit of a mystery, @SD_southcoast.

Have you spoken with our technical support team? They'll be able to check everything from our side.

Chris

@SD_southcoast   It’s possible that the APN setting need to be entered on the device. You’ll need to login to it as an Admin in order to do this.
