Bought a WiFi mini mobile broadband device purely to watch an hour of TV in the nights. Phones aren't connected to the WiFi nothing else uses the WiFi except when we watch TV for maximum an hour a night. Have had the device for 3 weeks with 120G of data which should of apparently lasted us 4 months for what we wanted it for. It has after not after 3 full weeks just ran out of data. How is this possible? The device has been on charge for a few hours throughout these three weeks.. does that mean that it's using WiFi then? Even though we're not actually using it, just charging it? I can't understand how we have no data left in under 3 weeks which should've lasted us 4 months

@sadiefowler : No, it's using mobile data every time you watch on-demand TV over it & that could use 1 to 2 GBs per hour depending on quality.
Look at http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status from a device connected to your mobile router by WiFi to see data & credit status.

As @XRaySpeX points out you use Data when watching TV the amount is depending on the Stream Quality but as a very rough guide budget for around 1Gb per hour for 720p, 2Gb for 1080p, and around 4 to 6Gb for 4K or more. but your Data usage does seem excessive for your usage times.
Other thing to watch out for is how are you Streaming, and how are switching the TV Off, if your using a Streaming Stick or Box and your watching Content, switching the TV remotely into Standby or Off doesn't mean its cancelled the Streaming Device, it could still be activately Streaming with the TV inactive.
