VPN and Port SSH blocked since I upgraded to Unlimited

I recently upgraded from Pay as you go to Unlimited contract and now I am unable to access my office VPN, use SSH or SFTP and am getting low speeds. I have gone from 70 mbs to about 25mbs.

I have spent hours on support chat and I am told: EE does not support VPN's.

Why does it work on Pay as you go!!!! What is the point of going on to contract if I am going to be blocked from working from home?

Also, EE, your support is terrible!

It might be an EE IPv6 issue. EE has introduced IPv6 on its contract mobile network, but it doesn't fall-back to IPv4 nicely. Can you change the Profile/APN on your EE device to APN Protocol = IPv4 only? Or play around with that setting.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Hi XRaySpeX,

Thanks for your message. I had seen your posts in a few other queries and check that out. The device that I have does not allow me to set it to IPV4 only. So I move the sim into my phone, set it to IPV4 only and the internet just stops working. As soon as I turn IPV6 on again, the connection is restored.

If I put my Pay as you go EE sim in the both devices, the services work without an issue.

Is there perhaps another APN I could use?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Moodoohoo,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

I'd recommend contacting your VPN provider for support. Most VPN clients support IPv6, but it may require an update if it's not a recent version.

James

Hi @James,

The VPN is a into a private work network that has been specifically setup to handle  specific scenarios and is internally built. No change is currently possible.

Also, Why the SSH issue?

Thanks

Hi @Moodoohoo,

Does the SSH server have an IPv6 address?

James

There are several hundred SSH servers and unlikely that they have IPV6 address.

That aside, EE needs to allow IPV4 on the contract, like they do on Pays as you go!. That the bottom line!

Having the same issue. Unlimited EE sim does not allow contact to vpn Three Sim works perfectly. Also hotspot from my EE sim in phone works fine with vpn. Support can't get Unlimited sim to connect. Been on hours and visited shop with joy. Looks like I'll have to cancel the sim and find another provider even though speed is better..such a shame.

Hi @Wilky17.

Are you able to contact your VPN provider for support?

Our Tech Gurus may be able to assist you further if not.

Jon

I have just been told by EE that they dont support VPN connections whilst other ISP do. 12/09/2022  Yuck. Have reasonable speed now but cant connect to vpn or my Solar Panel data in the loft. How they land a plane I do not know!
