Use my own 5G Router instead of the EE5G Router

I currently have a 5G EE router with unlimited data. The router is very basic however and won't let me do anything in terms of changing the DNS or setting up my own firewalls/VPN. I can't even update it currently.

Mikrotik have a new 5G router and this does seem to work but I only get a 4G signal(less than 70MB upload). On the main 5G EE router I can get 180+MB. Is there some block on non EE routers on a 5G network? or is it perhaps a setting that I have missed. Has anyone else done this with any other none EE router?

There is no block on non-EE routers. You may put your EE SIM in any unlocked router of your choosing.

What's the Model Number of the Mikrotik Router that you have bought and how is it set up or positioned?, I having a guess here but it could be to do with the extended 5G NR Bands that EE now use in certain areas.

Post up the Model No. and i will look into the specs and NR Band availability, is the Mikrotik new or second hand, also do you have a approximate location of where you are.

It's the Chateau 5G router and it's new.

The router is on the top floor of a 3-story house. Its positioned with a  line of sight to the 5G transmitter. The signal is very good(5 bars) on both routers. I'm in Crewe CW1 4PN. Many thanks in advance.

You are getting a 5G signal.

No I am not. If I turn off the 4G bands on the Chateau i get no signal at all. The  5G EE router has B1,B3 and N28 bands and this reaches speeds beyond 180MB. The chateau never gets above 65MB. Something is not right.

I might add that the picture of the signal connection is from the EE 5G router not the mikrotik

I might add it's v. confusing to show the image of 1 router with the status of another router within the same post!

I'll have a look later.

@EssexBoyEE :  I have now done so & they should appear soon. Surprised I could see them before they were approved.
