I've checked the EE coverage map for the postcode where my business is and it comes under 5G. All the phones on site pick up 5G but the Smart 5G hub will only pick up 4G on 5 bars. I've checked to make sure the SIM is 5G enabled and it is. The router's firmware is up to date and I've tried it in different palces where the phones get 5G. It's now next the front window raised on a shelf so there should be very little obstruction. The phones pick up 5G there anyway so why this router should default to 4G is a mystery.
The settings for Network Mode are auto 4G/5G but it defaults to 4G every time, yet phones find the 5G no problem.
We're only on mobile broadband because we couldn't get fibre but now providers are coming in so we may ditch EE in the near future if we can't get 5G sorted on the Smart Hub. It would be nice to get 5G into the place though!

Is the SIM in it on contract?

Yes it's on a rolling monthly business contract.

Do you know any friends or relatives who have an EE phone - if so, do they receive 5G service in the same location?
What data speeds are you achieving over 4G?

We do have a EE SIM on one of the phones here - but I'll double check it to make sure it's getting consistent 5G coverage.
On 4G, the speed test I did yesterday was 35Mb download and 7Mb upload. But there are periods of latency when the 4G limitations are noticeable. We had to move premises over a year ago and in our old place - which wasn't even officially supposed to be covered on the 5G map - was getting a bangin' 5G signal with one speed test showing upwards of 100Mb download speed. The router was next to the window to achieve this.
It's disappointing to move a few doors up after a year away, see us officially on the 5G map and not be able to get it. In fact, I'll shove the router on an extension lead and take it outside to see if it gets 5G in the street. It's a test worth doing, but normally inside next to a window does the trick.
