Lack of 4G signal

This time last year I had a good 4G signal in my outside workshop and so I bought a 4GEE Wifi mini and a 24 month contract added to my existing 4G WiFi account. So far so good as I could use WiFi calling and do lots of other things. Come December and the problems began, sometime on….. sometimes off and power cuts didn’t help ( I live in Shetland). After New Year I returned to my workshop and no signal…just a constant red light on my WIFI mini. Tried lots of things to get it going including another 4G mini to check it wasn’t the equipment …but no change. EE are unable to say what the problem is but I’m now tied into another 13 months of the contract …which at £18 a month…is no joke.

Hi @Northman

Is your other WiFi device working?

Did our tech team raise an investigation ticker for this if they were unable to fix it?

Jon

Yes the person I spoke to in EE last weekend said they’d put a note on my account to say there was an issue. I’ve still trying to get back to say that my other 4G router is working in the house but the alternative 4GEE mini didn’t pick up a signal in the workshop like the other one in there.

Thanks @Northman

Raising an investigation ticket is slightly different. This would be raised and monitored until a resolution was found, and you would be contacted.

I'd recommend getting back in touch to see if this is the case.

Jon

Thanks Jon

I will try and get back to the technical customer services and pursue it through them….

If one EE device is working, that proves that the radio network is providing coverage and tends to suggest that any other device that's not working, has a fault.

Are you able to swap your SIMs between the two working devices, and see if the problem follows the SIM or remains with the device?

OK…. My house has a Huawei B315 router receiving wireless 4G and that’s ok. My workshop 60 metres away is using a mobile 4GEE mini. That was working fine up to December 2022. Now it’s not picking anything up…red light only. Tried another identical 4G EE mini, same thing…. So it’s not the equipment. It’s a change or loss of signal.

If this device is receiving 4G coverage, then self evidently there is 4G service.

Ok I’ve spoken to EE techie and he reckons it could be a change in the signal ,though there’s no significant change in the masts or 4G signal in the area…which was my thought. He did say the mini 4GEE aren’t as powerful as home routers at picking up signals. He’s sending a new SIM to rule out any fault with that. I’m going to try my home router up in the workshop to see if it works there….and if that’s the case I can always buy a new Huawei router and booster like I have in the house. Also try the sIM in the phone to check it’s working there…so plenty to try before giving up. Thanks for your messages.
