EE doesn't get contact number right

My mobile phone provider is not EE. However, I have mobile broadband with them. That SIM, even though it has an assigned phone number, is tucked away in my router and I have no access to calls or texts on it.

I recently cancelled that SIM to order one that comes with a cheaper price tag. While in the process of ordering a new one, EE wants me to verify my account by sending me a code to the number that belongs to the SIM in the router (!!). They have my actual active phone number in the contacts, yet they aren't using it in my order summary. I can also not change it to make them use my actual contact number for account verification or order updates. This is too complicated for something that should be as simple as ordering a SIM. So, on Saturday I won't have internet at home because the SIM in my router will be deactivated and I can't order a new one. And no, I won't temporarily pop it into my phone and risk messing up the whole setup and create a lot kerfuffle for something as simple as account verification. There should be other ways or an option to have primary contact numbers and to use those.

How come the smart EE people are unaware that they sell hardware with SIMs in it which cannot be accessed as a phone contact?

How did you cancel that SIM?

Most mobile routers can receive texts & reply to them. Login to it & look for the SMS Section/Inbox.

I called. It wasn't possible to cancel online or in the app so I spoke to a person on the phone.

I might give it a try although it sounds too complicated for something that should be simple. I don't even know where my login data for the router is.

Login to your MBB router at http://192.168.1.1 with username/pwd as "admin"/"admin" or with the admin password found under the battery cover.
