is the 4G WiFi 25gb portable wifi just a hot spot

was thinking about getting a 4G Wi-Fi portable Wi-Fi hub because i dont get too much service on my phone and if this is just a hot spot does that not mean i wouldn't get much service here on the portable Wi-Fi either and i dont want to risk wasting money but there is apparently good 4g coverage in the area and my data is not with ee so is this any better than just getting a ee sim card and hotspoting?

@adn54  the best way for you to test this is to get yourself an EE PAYG sim and stick it in your phone.     

A mobile router is exactly just that a router that connects to a mobile network and not a physical line like a home broadband router.
