Please can you help me with the above sims. I had a 2 year contract for unlimited data for my internet which was a data sim only. This was due for renewal in February 2025. We spoke to our EE advisors in their shop and we had a new router as ours was several years old as part of our new 16 month contract which we understood was with a data sim like the last contract. We had a slight issue with our router, so went back to the shop and they talked us through what to do, but we were then told we had a voice sim in our router in the new contract. Please can you tell me why we have a voice sim this time and not an unlimited data sim like our last contract. Many thanks in advance.

Voice and Data SIMs work identically, and Voice SIMs are generally cheaper than Data SIMs despite often having the same allowances. Whether it is a Voice or Data-Only plan is irrelevant as long as you have an Unlimited Data allowance, or an adequate allowance compared to your regular usage.
I use a Voice SIM consistently in a 4G router and get a much better deal on it than I would get on a Data-Only SIM.
To answer your question, it was probably better value to get a Voice SIM than a Data-Only SIM Plan at that point in time.

Hi @DavidP1956,
Welcome to the Community!
We want to be sure you're getting the plan you expect, so I'm sorry to hear about this confusion. Did the team mention how much data your current SIM came with?

Thanks for your prompt reply. They did say it was unlimited and it does state that on my account. It was just when we signed the contract we didn’t know the difference between the sims and we wasn’t told about the change until we went back to the shop. It was only when we got home I thought I’d better ask the question. Not being technically minded I now know and understand how they work.
Thanks again for your prompt reply.
Best regards David P
