I live in a very rural location in Northumberland. I have BT broadband which is very slow (10/1M). We have EE sims in our phones using the BT deal. Until recently there was absolutely NO mobile phone signal from any provider. When the BT line went down (eg for 9 days during Storm Arwen) we were completely cutoff.
A new mobile phone mast has been built on the other side of the valley, which transmits Vodafone and 5G O2. I have an O2 sim in a 4G router which provides 20/10M. There is another mast being built a couple of miles away which is supposed to be providing EE, but I can't get the go live date. I've waited 5-6 months but no sign yet.
I'd like to upgrade to 5G with automatic failover to the BT line. I believe the EE 5g router is an Zyxel NR5103, which provides this service.
So as a BT/EE customer, can I buy an EE 5G router without a sim, which I could put an O2 sim in?

All devices sold by networks these days are sold unlocked but you'll have to buy it on pay monthly contract as I don't believe EE sells mobile routers outright on PAYG at present.
