anyone know why would data not work after top up on PAYG? 

Help on this Community forum is advertised on EE help as an alternative to the Call Us option

Have you bought a pack or data add-on with the credit you topped up? You can't buy data directly from your credit like you can with test & calls.

Visit http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status from a device connected to your mobile router by WiFi to see your data & credit status as well as its mobile no. at the top. What does it say,  obscuring your mobile no.?
