Hey,

I know this is a super old topic but I've had the exact same issue, playing valorant and my ping was 5 before when with BT and using the BT route, switched to EE router and ping is 60, frankfurt 20, stockholm 30, paris 60, it looks like my connection is almost being sent out to paris and then back as the ping is exactly the same. I've since switched back to the BT route to see if this resolves the issue, and ping is back to 5.

I'm not sure what the issue is specifically with the EE route but it is something to do with the hardware of the route causing the issue from what I can tell.

Did anyone find a resolution for this?

There is no resolution, ee said there aware and have zero desire to fix

I've found a solution in another thread that worked for me. To confirm my connection is hard wired to the router so why does this have an impact on my hard wired ping/latency? Someone from EE CS needs to look into this and what impact the different modes are having as this made my latency 10 times higher than my BT hub and this change reverted it back to my usual 5 ping to London servers. Before on mode 1 I was getting near to 60, 20 to Frankfurt, 30 to Stockholm.

I went into router settings and changed the wireless mode from 1 to 2, not sure what the different modes do but apparently...

  • Mode 1: Gives you the fullest featured wireless, maximising speed and range
  • Mode 2: Some devices can sometimes struggle to use the latest wireless features. If you have any devices that can’t get a good wireless connection, try using this mode. Selecting this mode may reduce the wireless range and throughput but improve connectivity.
  • Mode 3: Change to this mode if your wireless devices don’t perform well using mode 1 or 2. Selecting this mode will reduce the latest features as well as wireless range and throughput compared to Mode 1 and 2. It'll enable the broadest range of devices to operate on the wireless. The features that are reduced include: power saving procedures, traffic aggregation methods and Multiple Concurrent data streams

2Compatibilityb/n/g and a/nN
3Legacyb/g and aN

Could anyone else from this thread test to confirm if this resolves for them also?

Where did you see a option to change wireless mode from 1 to 2

You need to login to the router settings, maybe 192.168.1.254, then select wireless, then change settings, use the admin password to login then change mode to 2.

@dhillier : This is no solution! Do you not realise that this thread is all about using a mobile router over EE's mobile network? You are telling them to do to a mobile router what you have done to a particular BT/EE Smart Hub running over the BT fixed BB network.

Not only a super old topic but also a extraordinary wrong topic!

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Maybe the solution is these people speaking with EE about what worked for me and what they are going to do for them then as 5G router customers to resolve if they don’t have access to the same solution as myself. I actually missed they are talking about 5g router, but it’s still the same issue others and I are having with EE. This is clearly an EE issue and they just push blame to other providers without any interest in understanding or troubleshooting the issue for their customers. When I called up support they just referred to the speed of the line, weren’t interested in discussing or understanding the latency issue, 2 very different things, and just said the provider of the service I’m connecting to must have busy London servers at that time, just passing the buck with no ownership.

If you read up I asked initially if anyone else had found a solution. I didn’t expect it to be a simple mode change on the router that would resolve it and thought EE may need to do something on my line or move me to a fixed IP.

Changing this one setting on my router from EE from wireless mode 1 to 2 significantly reduced my latency, and no one from EE could give an answer as to what their hardware was doing different to BT and showed no interest in resolving, so I thought I would throw it out there for others as I randomly came across the thread while searching for an answer before cancelling the contract.
