5Gee 2021 Home Router - Fan Noise

I've had the 2021 5Gee Home Router running for a couple fo months without issue - easily integrated into my pre-existing mesh setup, and now getting much better speeds up and down.

However, in the last couple of days the fan in the unit has become INCREDIBLY NOISY where once it was whisper-quiet. Restarting doesn't change anything, or adjusting its position on the shelf.

Anyone else had / having these issues? It's impossible to work with the noise it's creating.

Thanks in advance

Tom

Nope, the tech gurus failed to solve this - anyone reading this, please don't do that; I spoke to their tech gurus twice, so did some others on this thread - they had no idea what is causing the issue and they only solution they will give you (apart from the usual "turn it off turn it on", and factory reset, which don't work of course) is to return it to EE. If you can be bothered with that and live without a router for a while EE will send it off and you'll get a new one with exactly the same problem...it is not a fault, it is bad design. Again, only viable solution is unplug the fan - I have been testing with the fan plugged back in for a while and can confirm there is NO DIFFERENCE in performance with fan plugged in or unplugged.

EE have no idea what they are doing with this unit. My fan has been unplugged for over a month now and completely fine.

I still on occasions get lockup and the WiFi status reports connected but no internet and have to reboot.

I have recently installed this very noisy 5Gee router hub.  I’ve just read all the comments and complaints about this product so why are EE still supplying it ?  I’m now stuck with this noise for the entire duration of the contract. I intend to lodge a complaint as this is product issue is clearly being ignored by EE 😡

As I’m sure you’re fully aware, this product has a design fault as being experienced by your unfortunate customers trying to work with this incredibly noisy device in their office and homes,
Would EE please comment on why this product is still be issued with the number of complaints visible. I wish I’d known before recently being tied into a contract,

Hi @JudithCook67

This is not something that I am aware of and any issues with a device would need to be reported to our tech gurus who will perform full troubleshooting to help diagnose any issues and let you know the next steps. Please contact us to let us know about this issue for further support.

Leanne.

hi scwilson,

Got a noisy fan. Definitely need to replace the fan module with its little four wire connector block. Did you manage to source a replacement fan in the end?

I did the same as you - searched the internet. No luck yet. I have disconnected the fan. So far so good.

Mine is incredibly noisy. However, now I’ve got a shrouded usb fan blowing directly into the vent holes at the back and aside from the fairly quiet usb fan the router fan has not come on. The usb fan is not powered by the router.

The routers cooling design is not enough, including the internal fan. It needs to be redesigned, but this solution works for me.  At night I turn both of them off.
