5G queries

I am looking at going for an EE Mobile device 5G, to replace Fibre broadband with BT, due to poor service. Looking at the online tracker, 5G is not yet available in my area, and no actioned date of exactly when. However for a few weeks now, I have been getting 2 bars signal of 5G on my Iphone 13 Pro. Over the past week EE has sent text messages to say they are working in the area. 24 hours ago my average Mbps has jumped from my usual 60 to 200. The system is now exceptionally quick. I have spoken with EE on the phone which wasn't successful in answering my question as to why am I getting 5G and why has my speed jumped massively. There is 5g in surrounding villages, but they aren't exactly close.  Can anyone shed any light. Is it possible I am picking up a distant 5G signal.  It seems stable on 5G, and not jumping often between 4 and 5G.  Just found it strange as to why my speed has jumped massively as well.  Not complaining, but be good to know why.

In many cases, 5G techs are added to network sites alongside additional 4G spectrum - it's very rare for one to be added without the other, but this is all based on individual site configs.

Also the nature of 5G-NSA is that your 5G phone will often display 5G indicators when a nearby site is carrying 5G-techs, although the device may be using 4G.

Ok, thanks for explaining that.

So as my speeds have rocketed, is it possible that 4G has been upgraded, or there has been a long term fault causing the reduction in 4G speeds.

What you have mentioned makes total sense.

Thanks

Any of those scenarios are perfectly viable.
