5G Home Broadband

I have been using EE 5g Wifi since November 2023. For around 2 months the connection was okay (high speeds during off hours, then 20-30mbps during 'peak times'). It would often drop out, and would need restarting every other day. Over time this has gotten worse, both the 4G/5G speeds will now drop off and become unusable or it will just not work at all. the 30M range is closer to 4M as what is left of the signal seems to drop once I leave the room.

I checked my location on EE's coverage site. 4G everywhere, and I'm in the zone for 5G Indoors/outdoors. Tried moving the box to various locations around the house, this did not help.

We tested using a TP-Link router paired with a WIFI booster, which does mean the signal can finally make it to other rooms apart from where the box is located, this 'fixed' the range issue but does not help the consistantly unusable speeds (have not tried the booster with the EE box, as the website to link them would never open, and it wouldn't link manually either).

Not sure what to try next, as my family have just ordered Starlink, so it seems like I might be left with a £60 a month paperweight in 2-3 days.

There was an old fix floating around the forum for something like this with just running IPV4 only, here we go:

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Mobile-Broadband/Fix-for-5GEE-WiFi-Hub-IPv6-internet-issues-over-ether...

However, some have tried it and it seems to work for a bit and then it stops again, like here:

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Mobile-Broadband/5GEE-Router-Unusable/td-p/1260740

You've said you have moved it around, however did you check your connection settings around the property? See this post as it mentions about this:

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Mobile-Broadband/5G-router-keeps-losing-internet-support-issues/td-p/1...

Otherwise, if you are still having issues, then it is best to contact EE Technical Support - https://ee.co.uk/contact-ee/technical-support

I had this problem, switching to IPv4 only seemed to sort it, but when i asked tech support for a better solution the only thing they could suggest was 'don't use 5G, move to a regular broadband connection'. Which I've now done. So I guess the moral of the story I'm taking away is, 5G is bad, don't use it if you can possibly avoid it.

Tried this aswell since the 5G would drop off more often, but it did not help at all. I'll probably have to contact them directly since it seems like the 5G box itself performs very poorly (it can output a signal, but receiving a signal it is awful. It only works well at 6am when neighbourhood is asleep I assume, becoming unusable by 9am), unless it's just an EE thing. Not sure if there is a major difference, but my phone sim is with Three and the 4G/5G is good all the time, so I now use it to tether.
