here is how to bypass this rubbish:

use a VPN and set the location to a country outside the uk, a vpn will also bypass adult content web filters

Yes a VPN will work until they are banned.  The whole idea is flawed. Most of these adult sites are in unregulated countries run by dubious owners. The suggestion you hand over personal data and banking information to them to verify your age is ridiculous. 

There are also millions of other sites this will not apply to becase they are small or just missed. 

This is another surveillance mechanism as "adult sites" will be anything the government deem unacceptable for you to view, which might not be porn but having to register means the government can track you and what you are viewing, then comes selling that data to Google etc...

blocking vpns is very difficult, even russia and china cant do it, even wakefield college could not stop me using a vpn to bypass their smoothwall web filter

I don't have a credit card and I loathe the idea of having to send my ID to some of these companies as the more places you show your ID online, the higher the fraud risk becomes.
