trying to recover lost landline number:URGENT

This is urgent: I lost my landline number on 11th of December 2024 when my EE account was transferred by EE, without my consent, to BT, with whom I previously had my account. The account was immediately transferred back and there was no problem with the broadband, but I have not had a working phone since then.

I have made endless calls to EE/BT and as a last resort they are sending me a new BT phone. They wanted to give me a temporary number and then reinstate my old number but they haven't be able to do this and they don't understand why. They say the phone should be working but it isn't.

I had transferred from copper to full fibre a while back, months before 11th December, and the phone worked fine, so moving from copper to fibre isn't the problem.

What worries me is that looking online this morning I have seen posts saying that after 30 days a number cannot be retrieved, so perhaps I have about 24 hours to get this sorted.

We have had this number for 60 years so losing it would be a disaster. My whole experience with EE has been a disaster. I moved from BT to EE: they keep insisting they are the same company but why then are problems such as this arriving?

I have tried so hard to get this sorted and his post is a last shot. I do hope someone can help me.

Many thanks

@XRaySpeX Think i have it now but do correct if wrong, fttc service delivered to your OR master socket, BB on one provider and the phone is separate to another provider, both delivered over (one pair) or (two pair) separate cable wiring within your master socket.

@JimM11 : Just 1 pair. Same master socket. It used to be that EE (& others) would give you BB-Only hosted on a landline no. provided by someone else

@XRaySpeX Got it now, SKY did similar on there fttc service but they wanted the line, was ok for years phone was good, BB was good, then they did a sneaky or it was possible OR or Exchange equipment, although the phone should work fine it operated as if on some form of voip service, as BB would work but phone would go out of service, until you called and complained and mysteriously they fixed it.

In the early hours of today (as notified in advance by EE by email) I lost my FTTC SoGEA line. My landline was not affected as expected. I'm now running FTTP alone thro' an EE BrightBox 2, known already to  all my devices & smarter than all these so called Smart Hubs.

@XRaySpeX Way it should be, just do not understand why you have to use a stupid app to control a router, even worse and to effect the EE did not produce a software application that gave the ability for setup and control, good old tech just so reliable and works, you more than likely can have split bands and way better control on the wireless side with that EE Router.

The EE Smarthub+ is certainly lacking in the 2.4Ghz power band, but the 5Ghz is a little stronger. All in all it's not a bad ISP router just has so many stupid oops about it.

If the router you have goes belly up, do EE have the ability to give you a replacement same type, or is it obsoleted now.

Let's hope OR don't have to mess with your exchange and keep the old phone system up and running for a while.👍
