Switching to EE Digital Home phone service with an existing BT handset

When I was persuaded to switch from BT to EE, no mention was made of any potential issues with my existing BT digital voice handsets. I have set up the new hub and boosters ok, everything works except the handsets. These display  "cannot find the hub" despite me trying various ways to get the hub and the handsets to pair up. Is it because the BT handset is still looking for the BT hub? If so, how do I deregister them?

Very annoyed this problem is not covered anywhere, certainly not in any paperwork or in the set up notes.

They should still work with an EE router. How or where are you connecting them?
