Hi i changed from BT to EE recently as i had no choice. I was give there Smart Hub Plus which in my opinion does not work as well as the old BT Smart Hub 2. So i now want to use a third party router but landline needs Smart Hub Plus to make them work. I have read it is possible but complicated.

It is not possible with a 3rd-party router. The EE or BT Smart Hub must be the 1st closest to the incoming BB. You could have the 3rd-party router as a secondary router & use that for connecting devices.
To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone
ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

So EE really have locked us down, both on this issue and their voicemail on the landline which at the moment cannot be switched off.
Cant wait for my EE contract to end. Other suppliers are available and will be looked at.
