Broken dial tone

Can anyone tell me why my dial tone is “broken” I.e. it has breaks in it rather than a continuous tone. My phone is connected into my broadband hub. Can I do anything about it?

Hi @ErnieS

Is the broken dial tone in a pattern, or does it sound like it's partially cutting out?

Can you describe the pattern?

Ali

I would call it stuttering. Its purr-purr-purr on a regular basis, about 50% silent, 50% dial tone.

@ErnieS

That sounds like the same notification for having a voicemail message waiting.

Can you try calling your landline number and leaving a new message yourself, then listen to it and delete the message it should then restore your normal dial tone.

Let me know how you get on.
