Many thanks for responses but spoke directly to EE today and they say there is currently a fault affecting management of accounts that will not be fixed for at least a week.

Is this happening when you initially log into your account, or when you try to go to a certain page?

It is happening when I click on 'view profile' - but also with other pages on the site and only seems to stabilise if click update or somehting else connected with sales

Could you try clearing cookies and cache and also try a different web browser to see if the same happens?
Also, does this happen when connected to WiFi and mobile data?
