Can anyone from EEs credit referral team explain why I was turned down for a contract with EE despite having a score of 988/1000 with with clearscore(Equifax)
My old Sony phone has finally broken. Anyway because of this I thought I would switch to EE.
I used my laptop to sign up and chose a handset and deal. I then got right to the end of the process and got a screen asking me to give 0800 956 6042 a call to discuss my order. Anyway I did this and was told by the advisor that there had been a problem creating my account and he needed to go through a few details again with me.
So I did all the details and repeated everything that was asked when I used my laptop. I was stunned to find I had been turned down and there was nothing he could do about it!!
I have a great score in Equifax and have never missed a payment on mortgage, credit cards or anything else! The average score for my area is 550 yet I'm 988!!
This is crazy! (To me!)
Can someone explain? I can provide any information required - order number etc!

The credit score you see is meaningless. It's not a number that used for anything except to sell you services.
No one will be able to explain why you were not accepted. It's worth calling back and confirming with EE that all your details are correct, there's no typos, or mistakes with anything. You might be able to get a SIM only deal instead, just not a handset if that's of interest?
