Student in Spain for 12 months ,but wants to keep existing phone number

Hi. My daughter has an EE phone number which is currently out of contract. She will be a student in Spain for 12 months starting September 2024 and will be coming back and forth from Spain to UK during that time.

Can you please advise what are the best options for her for when she goes to Spain? Should she get a SIM only deal in Spain and if so, can she transfer the Spanish number to her ee UK number?

She doesn't want to lose her current phone number because by May 2025, she will be back in the UK permanently.

It's not clear to us what the best option is for her when she's in Spain.

2 separate ideas:

1. She could cancel her contract & have it moved to PAYG. She take out a new contract when she gets back & have the no. moved to it. She would need to send a chargeable text within every 6 months to keep it live.
2. You can't port nos. between countries.

@giloe , if she is coming back and forth to the UK from Spain, she may want to change to pay as you go, but then must use her phone in the UK first making a chargeable call or text once changed to pay as you go and use it in accordance here:

She cannot transfer her Spanish number to her UK number or visa versa, as they are different networks and countries, but she can use a Spanish SIM card if she so wishes.
