Repairs and warranty scam

Hi All, after being an EE customer for years it pains me to have to write a complaint like this. in April i was contacted because i was eligible for a free upgrade. I thought id try something new and decided on the Galaxy z Flip 3. Great phone, looks nice and quirky with the fold screen. over the past 3 months it got a few marks and scratched from the cover that i had on it but functionally flawless, until last weekend. Never dropped, broke or damaged a phone in my life, never really in my hands long enough to do so. when i took out the phone i was told that due to the nature of the phone the screen would be protected under manufacture warranty for the duration of my contract, great i thought as i was worried that a folding screen would see undue strains and pressure.  I contacted CS, went in to two EE stores and all said yes, manufacture fault we will send it for repair. the second store assistant even told me that on Monday morning it was the second flip/fold phone they had had in that morning. i was told i could have a loan phone while said fault was being repaired, no phone to lend me. I was then told to go look in CEX across the street to buy a cheap phone while mine was away. needing my phone that's what i had to do. this morning ive had a message from the so called EE repair centre telling me that the screen would cost me £339 to repair as the warranty is void because of damage to the phone. the damage they are referring to is some marking on the casing from the cover i have on it and marks on the screen where ive been using the phone. the person i spoke to in the repair centre sounded like she really couldn't be bothered answering the phone and customer services basically told me they cant go against the almighty repair centre! ive never had or needed insurance and didn't this time because according to the CS advisor the screen was covered if the fold broke. the warranty is a scam, the slight marking and damage to the casing would in no way affect  the fold in the screen. EE are aware of this type of fault as i was notified on my initial call when the screen started going. Kevin Bacon can apparently get a signal at the top of a mountain but i cant get a decent signal in my local area next to a mast. if your new to ee and still in your cooling off period give the phone back, go with another company and save yourself the trouble of dealing with the UKs WORST network!

They run a repair service under the device warranty, @Tisme1.

Chris

But UK law says warranty is with the seller not the manufacturer.

It makes your customer support useless

You can speak to our Technical Support team, if you want to, @Tisme1.

They will be able to run through some diagnostic sessions and ask you some problems about the problem that you're having. If a repair is needed, they can help you organise one.

Chris

I spoke to them a few days ago. They told me the screen had broken due to me opening and closing the phone. They also said as I had broken it it was not under warranty. I pointed out the i couldn't use it unless i opened and closed it.

I am waiting for the transcript of our conversation from EE so if it goes to court I can use it.

As I previously said customer suport is useless

You need to speak to Samsung, they have a separate option now for folds and flips and they will arrange repair.

I feel your pain.im on my third Z Flip 3 when it eventually arrives tomorrow. The this one is because of the cracks in the folding screen causing issues when it's opened. This is after a third 25 minute conversation with their Chubb/EE insurance centre because they lost all records of a rescheduled DPD delivery and the guy on the end of the phone sounded like he couldn't care less and indifferent to the whole issue. Yes I pay monthly for the insurance and £100 excess on each claim but this will be the third one and my contract is up in 7 months so come May 23 I can recoup that money and more. I will also add that when I first noticed the cracks and I took it to my local EE shop they said to me ahhh, another one so they know its a manufacturing fault but Samsung won't admit it due to recall and replacement handsets........XBox and the red rings of death experience all over again and look what it did yo their reputation. Reddit is full of posts with the same screen issues.

I have had the exact same thing happen to me. Got the zflip3 in January. The fold line of death is a known fault but no one seems to be taking responsibility for the warranty. I had mine sent off and apparently its damaged...erm no it isn't the cracks and fold line is underneath the screen. They wanted to charge 338 to repair it so I told them to bounce and send the phone straight back. I'm going to set up a class action lawsuit about this device as everyone I know thats had one has also had the same issues. When I took the phone to the ee store they said this is the 84th flip to be brought in in the last 2 months alone. Ee won't take responsibility and neither will samsung. I've been with ee nearly 10 years and since having the zflip 3 it's been a horrible experience. Over £120 per month that I pay will now be lost because I'm not staying with this company any longer. Its a disgrace at how all flip 3 owners are being treated. And before ee staff pipe up saying was it damaged, have you called us well the answer is NO IT WASNT DAMAGED AND YES I HAVE CALLED EE WHOM ARRANGED THE REPAIR AND YOUR REPAIR CENTRE HAS BASICALLY BLAMED ME FOR THE DAMAGE LIKE THEY HAVE BLAMED EVERY SINGLE OTHER ZFLIP3 OWNER. Ridiculous treatment  good luck with the class action lawsuit  anyone want to join please contact me

[Please do not post personal information, such as your email address, in this public forum. Thanks]

I got the dreaded email from Samsung to say the same that they won't repair it with as there are marks on the screen.. Funnily enough marks I have never seen and they are zoomed in.

II have now reported to trading standards and waiting on a response from the Ceo Of Samsung.

Your ur right they way we are treated is terrible. Under the consumer act they haven't acted lawfully.

That's my next step. Good luck

Strange the repaired mine and I got it back today.

Still think EE should man up and do the warranty. Expecting customers to sort their own warranty out and being without a phone is unacceptable.

I'm still waiting for the recording of my phone call to ee where 2 or 3 ee employees said opening and closing the phone breaks it but thats not warranty. If anyone wants a copy when I get it for court action let me know. Good luck with getting your phones fixed i expect I'll be doing it again in 6 months

Ee told me to send to Samsung. Samsu g saying cosmetic damage on screen even though the fault is under the fold.

Glad you got urs fixed
