Pay off contract early

Hi, I currently have a 24 month contract with 8 months remaining.  I would like to keep the handset and pay off the device but then switch to sim only.

Is this possible?  And is it possible just to pay off the device portion of the contract, or do I have to pay off the whole lot in one go?  I'd like to stay with EE ideally.

Thank you.

If you're not on FlexPay, then you'll be on a traditional contract. These have no concept of a device loan, paying off a phone or separating your airtime.

You have one single monthly payment covering all your services. You'll likely end up paying for your remaining 8months service twice - once as part of a buy-out, and then again on whatever plan you subsequently choose.

I don't even believe a "buy-out" is possible, unless you're specifically requesting early disconnection. The closest you can get is to make a manual payment covering the remainder of your minimum-term, that will then be held on your account as credit towards the remaining bills.

If you're on FlexPay, you can make additional manual payments towards the device loan anytime. The airtime element is then, effectively, a SIM-only.

I don’t think it is flex pay .

Hi @Nickyvs26

The above from @bristolian is spot on.

If you are on a traditional contract, rather than Flex Pay, you can pay off the contract early to either upgrade to another phone or cancel the contract completely at any time, but you would only be able to move to SIM Only at the end of the contract term.

If you did want to move to SIM Only, you can request this when you are in the last 30 days of the contract, and it would then take effect once the current contract term has passed.
