So I've cancelled my contract 12 months early. I'm fully aware I'm going to have charged, but I want to make sure the charges are part of the process since 150 team as failed me before never updating another contract to payg. Downloading the bill doesn't help since the information about 'part charges' are so poorly explained and a Google search explained that it's an upgrade which would be the very opposite of what I want.

Part Charges are indeed part of upgrading where you get a part credit charge for the old contract paid in advance ending & a part debit charge for the new contract starting in its place.
When you cancel early part charges do not come into it. You are liable to pay early termination fees for the rest of the term. This will basically be months left x monthly charge - 20%.

I suppose a part charge credit could be considered to to come into being when cancelling to cover that part of the contract already paid in advance for the current month but this is usually a drop in the ocean of the whole early termination fees.
