Did you mean:

New number but retain old number too

I would like to change my number, however to ensure I don't miss updating contacts and banks etc I'd like to move my old number to a payg sim for a few months when my number changes. Is this possible?

Yes, with 30 days notice if not still within your min. term.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

When you give 30days cancellation notice, you are saying to EE "I don't want my current contract, but want to convert my number to PAYG"

That is a way of retaining your number, not of changing it. If you want to keep your current plan & account, you can request a change of number - but your old number is then lost.

I would recommend speaking to EE C/S on 150 to see if there is a way of combining the two processes... in effect, changing your number but then getting a new PAYG SIM with the existing one. I'm not aware of this being possible.
