I lost my SIM card a year ago, and have not used my phone since. I live in China and can not cancel my EE contract which I no longer need. I am getting threatening letters from EE for not paying my direct debit. I cancelled my direct debit, and instead of cancelling my account EE send my parents threatening letters. I want this to stop. How can I settle my account and cancel it?

Cancelling a DD does not get you out of a contract. All it does is make you owe more & more.
If you are wanting to cease your mobile contract you need to phone EE giving 30 days notice of cancellation of your contract. If you are still within your min term you will be liable to pay early termination fees for the rest of the term. It will basically be months left x monthly charge - 4%.

You will need to pay the termination charges unfortunately. Also never cancel a DD until the account is fully paid.
