End of contract

i have a All Rounder SIM Unlimited £40 6MHP plan with EE. it started on 20 March 2024 and is ending on 20 March 2026. i left the UK yesterday (16 Feb 26) and wont be back for a few months so i want to keep my number but it seems unnecessary to either pay for the plan for another month or find a way to use it for its last month while i’m in south africa. best solution?

@LeoBB   It’s not possible to change it to a pay as you go because you’re outside the UK as that would have been the cheapest option.   To keep the number and to be able to use it if needs be you’ll have to continue paying for it.  The contract will not just cease at the minimum term date it’ll change to a 30 day rolling contract at the same price point.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Your contract will not be ending in the way you may fear, just the minimum-term will finish. Your phone will continue to work in exactly the same way it is now, unless you explicitly request a change.

You can use your phone in South Africa by paying the costs set out at https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs > South Africa.

As mentioned, converting to PAYG is not possible when you are already abroad - you will lose service as soon as the conversion takes place and will only regain it on return to the UK within 6months.

Welcome to the Community, @LeoBB.

As @Chris_B and @bristolian have mentioned here, the cheapest option for keeping your number would be to switch this to pay as you go.

Provided you return to the UK within 6 months you'll be able to keep your number, but as it's technically a new account activation, even if it's the same SIM, you need to be in the UK and connected to our network before the service will start working.

The other option we could look at here would be moving to the cheapest SIM Only available; this would still have a monthly charge, but would ensure you keep your number and can use the SIM whilst in South Africa should you need to.

If you log into your account and select upgrades this should let you know all of the SIM Only options available.

Alternatively you can call us from abroad on +44 7953 966 150 and discuss your options with our team, just be aware that you'll either need a roaming pass, or would be charged at the international rate.

It is possible to change it to PAYG while you are abroad by calling CS, giving 30 days notice of cancellation of the contract & asking for it to moved to PAYG. However after that 30 days it will not work abroad until you are back in UK. As long as you are not away for a further 6 months (when it would go into hibernation for lack of use) it will be ready for you to use in UK with your existing no.
