EE FlexPay upgrade terms

Hi all,

My current SIM tariff expires in September and there will be 12 months remaining on the finance agreement for my phone. This is a flex pay agreement (SIM contract and phone finance agreement.)

Can someone confirm once the SIM contract expires that I'll be able to switch the tariff to a SIM only contract? The app currently indicates that whilst the finance agreement for the phone is active, it doesn't allow me to change tariff, which would in effect mean that the SIM contract is a 36 month tariff.

I'm happy to retain the handset as long as possible so I'm non-plussed about getting a newer handset.

Many thanks.

Yes, you'll be able to upgrade your SIM plan contract once it has reached its min. term. Then you will continue paying for the phone as usual under the flex pay scheme as well as the upgraded SIM plan.

Trying to upgrade the SIM plan any earlier results in the warning you are getting.

Hi there, my sim contract ended on the 23rd of August and my device flex pay ends 31st of August 2026.

im being told im unable to upgrade or change my sim plan because i have outstanding flex play on the device? Im aware i will continue to pay monthly for the device as agreed which is fine, but i begrudge paying £28 a month for a sim plan ive been offered by yourselves for £9 a month now for another 10 months!

any chance you can help with this? EE store in Skegness was VERY unhelpful when asked earlier today.

Many thanks, Jay

Not an EE employee but you should be able to change the SIM plan as they're deemed as two separate entities. My SIM did run out and I moved to a SIM only whilst still paying the phone off.

I called and they swapped my plan without issue but I had to be outside the term for the SIM contract, which you should be based on the dates you provided. Call customer services and go through upgrades and see what they say. Let us know how you get on!

@RetroAX : What you've been told by the EE Store is not correct. You'll be able to upgrade your SIM airtime contract once it has reached its min. term, even while the Flexpay device contract carries on until its full term.

@Grob1988 @XRaySpeX  Thanks for both getting back! Apologies for bringing up an old thread but feel like I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to get this sorted 😂 Will call EE again tomorrow and see if they can sort it out. Definitely won’t be going back to store after that experience!
