Don’t use EE in Malta

My son went to Malta for 2 days and I have just been hit with an £8k phone bill. I called EE and they said that there is something wrong with their billing system. My phone and my kids phones have been cut off twice today as I am over my credit limit despite being told they have fixed the issue of being cut off and now the office is closed. EE, you really are appalling. The worst customer service ever.

I got cut off, saw an outstanding balance on my account. Went to pay it off and couldn’t see it so I called yesterday. Spoke to someone who said nothing about the Malta charges and got me back up running. It went down again this morning so rang again and straight away the woman said have you been to Malta. She then proceeded to tell me the amount. I was astonished. Like it’s not a few thousand it’s bankruptcy levels of money. Madness. What an earth could be charging that much for simple data usage?

I hope they told you it’s a mistake and you don’t owe that amount?

Yes they did but it’s still showing up on my account and it seems to be SIGNIFICANTLY higher from everyone else on this chain. I mean £45,000 for 5 days of data 😂😂😂

I think there’s a £150k on here, but you’re certainly premier league, makes my £9k look like pocket change. I hope these posts are reassuring people? It’s clearly a mistake, the real problem though is the blocking and lack of info.  Was it just a brief glitch or are people getting off the flights tomorrow from Malta got this to look forward to?

Blimey that is crazy amounts. I have to question how it was allowed to happen. Who will end up paying it? Because it is a charge. So I suspect some sort of negotiations are going to be happening. It is reassuring that it isn’t just me, but shouldn’t be happening to anyone right now. And for EE to have not released anything, I dread to think the people that don’t realise.

@DominicG1  it’s a software glitch that will get corrected so no one will have to pay anything but their standard phone bill.   EE will have people working on this right now trying to find out what has caused this and once the issue has been found it’ll be rectified.   If it was me I wouldn’t worry about one bit.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

I contacted them via facebook

There's a very good chance the issue will be resolved by the time they do realise - they may not ever be aware, unless a notification is added to bills.

Can I just ask, did you all have the roaming add-on on your accounts or doesnt that make a difference to whether you got a large bill?

I had the roaming add on, not able to find how much they're charging me yet, but I've had my account suspended twice in the last 12 hours...
