Hi i am with EE for almost 6 months and i have an unlimited sim only plan on the app it shows me that i can upgrade to a phone plan on 9th december when i make 6 month with EE.
My question is do i have to pass any credit check for that or it s a straight away upgrade?
thanks

@Celdren99 They will perform a check as your are waiting more credit. The credit will purchase the device that you’ll pay off over the course the of the term of that contract. EE will not just say ok especially as phones can cost over £1000

@Celdren99 , nothing wrong with upgrading, you can see if they accept your order, and then you can see if you can afford it, you can cancel and also have 14 days cooling off, but just remember if you are upgrading to a phone contract, it is not just the plan but the phone you pay monthly as well, so will be more per month, but EE do do a credit check, so if you have a good credit score, you should be ok.

@Celdren99 Not paying your bill will only impact your credit score, that’s one one to make sure you don’t get a contract not just on EE but any network. And anything that you want to purchase on credit. EE want allow you to upgrade anyway if you’re not paying your bill.

@Celdren99 I’m not sure what their policy is on upgrades but I have asked customer service before and I’ve been told multiple times that EE do not do a full credit check for upgrades. Only when taking out a new contract. They will, however, check your account (payment history, internal credit limit, etc). Your internal credit limit is initially decided by the original hard credit search that they do when you sign up with EE for the first time. However this changes periodically depending on a variety of factors but it’s heavily influenced by your payment history. I know this for a fact because, due to previous financial issues, my credit rating with the credit reference agencies is “Very Poor”. And, as I’m sure you aware, it takes 6 years to recover from the negative effects left by historical debts! However, my credit score with EE’s internal system has bumped up two credit ratings this month and I’ve been told it’s now showing as “Fair/Average” (was previously “Poor” and I was only allowed a sim only plan with an internal credit limit of £140). This month, though, I was allowed to take out an additional line for a tablet and I now have an unlimited sim only plan (upgradeable from January 2023) and a tablet device plan with EE and I’ve been told I could, in theory, spend up to £600 a month with them if I wished now…although, at the time of writing, I’m only allowed 2 lines (but was previously only allowed 1 SIM only line). So I think it’s safe to say that, providing you have a positive payment history with EE, you should have little or no issues upgrading as long as the total cost of the device and plan you wish to choose is within your internal EE credit limit. If you ring EE on 150 they’ll be able to advise you what your internal credit limit is (they don’t tell you this usually but if you ring them they’ll be able to tell you).
