The need to "renew" an EE contract is a popular misconception. You have a rolling contract with a minimum term - many people confuse the minimum term with "contract ending". Your contract only ends if & when you explicitly request disconnection - if you don't want to make any change to your plan, then your service and billing will continue on the exact same basis it currently is.
You may want to consider a SIM-only plan if you're outside your minimum term, to reduce your monthly costs.
