Advice on process to upgrade a sim only contract please

I currently have a sim only business deal for a sim that is installed in a mobile router mounted inside a parabolic antenna fixed high above the roof of the building. This provides an Internet connection  via WiFi inside a building in a remote location with a very weak 4G signal.

The current contract is 'Business SIM 24' at £31.01 a month until 19 Oct 2023. As that has now ended the cost is now £37.21 a month. My typical usage 200Gb a month

My account now suggests an upgrade and I could get Business Essential SIM Only 24 Months Unlimited data for £25 month, which seem sensible, being nearly £10 a month cheaper.

My question is, if I upgraded would I have to get a new physical sim with a new number or could I continue to use the existing sim and the existing number?

This is important as the location of the sim means it's not that easy to change. Plus several other services I have rely on that SIMS's number, so It would be a pain to have to change all those to a new number.

Finally, most of the 'contact us' or other service requests assume you have a phone and involve texting a code to a number. Since my sim is not in a device with a keyboard attached, such 'contact' is impossible. If I can keep my existing sim and existing number yet still 'upgrade' and reduce my payments, can I do so without having to text something to perform any sort of activation?

Hi @airwave

Welcome to the EE Community

Great to hear you have a new deal which suites your needs and more cost effective than what you already have.

Good news- any upgrades are performed on the existing SIM by default. There is no need for a replacement SIM card unless you request one.
This saves having to access your equipment.

Thank you, very useful.

Do you know if this is a completely 'offline' upgrade. ie I don't have to text any numbers to activate it or such like. I just click the button on my PC and pay less, nothing more to do?

(I realise this ties me into another two years (which, being cynical, is probably why EE want me to upgrade!) but that doesn't matter.

@airwave

Online upgrade orders will send a One Time Pin for verification as well, as all notifications, to the SIM card in question.

For this scenario it would be best to contact the Business upgrades team directly so they're able to complete this for you manually.

OK, I knew there would be a snag.

Ok. Thanks for your help. You've given me the information I needed

You're welcome.
Some mobile router accept text messages. If you can access the router admin pages through WIFI you may be able to read the verification OTP messages to complete the order without having to call in.

It may be worth checking this first.

If you contact CS by phone and request this change of payment plan, the new plan will very often be active before you even terminate the call.

Thank you, that would be really handy as not only is the SIM 20 metres up in the air at the end of a pole but it's also 250 miles away from where I live😂
