That sounds like a good case for using your own router with the flexibility to control band, channel and bandwidth.

Wouldn't I need the username and password for the fttp connection to be verified ?  I need to speak to ee as I'm paying extra for extra wifi boxes

The EE BB PPPoE Username/pwd is the same as BT's: bthomehub@btbroadband.com /BT or blank

@Dazvr46 - so to confirm, a speedtest to the hub via the app returns expected results?

What Wi-Fi device(s) are you reporting slow speeds from i.e. specific makes/models etc? The capability of the client device can be equally as important as distance/band etc. Depending on the device, there may also be some more diagnostic detail you can extract in a bid to try and figure out what's going on.

The speed test via ethernet used to be acceptable (between 750 and 900).  After having several conversations the past few days and the autobot on the broadband telephone service kept restarting the modem I'm lucky to get 550 to 580 mbps on the ethernet cable.  My minimum guaranteed speed is 700.

I have alot of devices connecting most of which are wifi 6 compatible (Samsung s23 ultra.  Xbox series s and x.  IPads and macs which are also wifi ax compatible.   Firesticks and Echo speakers which are also compatible.

The agent I spoke to last night has said there are alot of reports of the issues I have and ee are arranging to send the bt smarthub2 to see if this fixes the issue

@Dazvr46 - so is a speedtest via the app to the hub satisfactory or not?

What device are you testing via ethernet, and is it connected to the hub via a single direct cable?

On the S23, there's a hidden Connectivity Labs menu you can unlock. Within those unlockable pages, you can see the physical Wi-Fi link speed during a time you are having the problem. That, combined with the band, may shed some light on things (as a v.rough guide, expect throughput to be half the link rate).

Also bear in mind that any device connected to a Smart WiFi extender will only ever be as fast as the Wi-Fi link from the extender back to the hub.

Interested to know how you get on with the Smart Hub 2, but on paper it's a less capable device, and it won't work with the Smart WiFi Plus extenders. Neither does it support Wi-Fi 6.

Thanks Bob I'll check out the connectivity labs after work.  I've used a windows 11 laptop that connected directly via a r45 cat6 cable and I'm lucky to get 580mbps.

Thanks for the info re the sm2.  I specifically said is the modem compatible with the WiFi extenders the advisor said it was... clearly they have no clue.

It is supposed to be arriving this week so I will wait and see.  I know it's not wifi 6 I was able to get decent speed at my last property when I had fttp.  Looks like I will be cancelling the contract with ee the way things are going...or they can reduce my monthly price to compensateme having to purchase my own equipment to be able to provide the speeds im guaranteed to get . I am not the only person to have these issues with the ee equipment either .

Hi I'm having the same problems are you an old legacy customer the same as me.  With the what i would say not for for purpose wifi 6 router  very unstable wifi speeds standing next to the router with only the 1 device connected to the wifi doing the test getting 200mbps or below .  They won't let you leave contract without paying early termination fee even with proof of low speeds as you have to have engineer out and give them a chance to fix the problem. They test via ethernet  not wifi.  This day and age nobody uses ethernet  a wifi 7 router they now supply to new customers would fix the problem but they say it won't be compatible with our service 🙄  (it would work)  but yes I think it's the crappy router not fit for purpose  I'm going to buy a wifi7 router of my own if they don't supply me with a compatible router that fixes my problems

@Gibbam1991   what device are you using to test your speeds?

@Gibbam1991 : Which EE BB plan are you on including its speed?
