open port 22 SSH on router for uploading to build personal website

Hi, I'm at my wits end trying to do something simple.. Well it has been simple across many servers and ISP's I've worked with for many years..

I've trired all suggestions on EE to try and get this port unblocked. CAN SOMEONE  do this for me..? I've tried all the articles provide by EE.  To no avail.. Not impressed with support systems.. Seems to be purely community based, but nothing in depth about opening this or other ports. Even Tech support cannot offer a solution. With provides like Rapid Switch, FastHosts and several others I've just used simple SFTP built what I needed as a website on one of my servers and moved on.

Help please.. Thanks in advance for any useable advice.

Graeme

@carol_yelf - It would be useful to understand a bit more about what you're trying to do, the tools/router being used, and what the symptoms of your problem are? References to companies like FastHosts and Rapid Switch are making me think that you're just trying to upload (from your broadband connection?) to a remote FTP server.

If this is the case, then I wouldn't expect you to have to do anything on the router. Not unless you are hosting the FTP server on your broadband connection and trying to connect to it from somewhere else on the Internet.

Thanks for your help..

I'm trrying to build a website on one of my 3 x Love servers based in Manchester.. I also have servers with Fasthosts.. The problem I'm having is passing traffic from 'my SFTP' app on my chromebook, and connecting to any of them. The router is not passing traffic on port 22 , it is blocked.. This must be an EE thing I've not experienced this on any other connections.

I've tried all the suggestions provided by EE limited info - to get the port open, even trying through their EE App on my phone. The only other possibilty I could try, is get an old router.. plug it in and use the EE provided user/password to connect. then open the port 22 on this replacement router.. It seems EE are only channeling what they see fit.. to other EE services. I wish I'd chosen another provider.. than EE..

Thanks for reading and any suggestions, gratefully recieved

Whereabout is your EE router in relation to your Manchester Lover servers & the Fasthosts servers?

OK.. I think the problem seems to be EE is using a mobile network infrastructure. I mearly mentioned 'LoveServers and Fasthosts,' as I have built several web sites for various companies, clubs groups etc.. and setup the websites on these servers for the past 2 decades. To do this I used a good old SFTP program, which if I connect through a BT or other providers router, connects me straight away to be able to edit and add new files, and build web sites..

I'm thinking the whole infrastructure on EE is mobile, and I don't know how to handle that.. Even the suggested answers from EE as to actions to  do, take ages to get through the latency and lag of their systems.. Nothing works as I know - even trying to oopen port 22 just does not happen..

Thanks

Graeme

You haven't answered my Q. Where is the router located with respect to the servers?

If as is usual, the servers are remote to you & your router you don't need to open any ports your end. It is the servers' port 22 that you are trying to talk to & EE won't be blocking that.

Have you tried using port 21? That is the normal port for addressing an FTP server.

I dunno what you are getting at by "EE is using a mobile network infrastructure". If you have an EE Home BB router it is using a fixed BB infrastructure, that of Openreach. You still haven't told (2 of) us what router you're using.

Thank you.. Bobpullen & XraySpeX...

I need to investigate further, I think the problem lies elsewhere .. not here. I thank you for your advice.. MUCH APPRECIATED!!

C'mon, let us know which router you have & we'll be able to put this matter in perspective.

If you think EE ae blocking outbound ports then use a VPN.
