ZYXEL XMG3927 G.Fast Router

Hi

I replaced my EE Smart Router with a ZYXEL XMG3927, which seems to be a highly rated router that is G.Fast compatible. I got it set up easy enough, but I'm finding on testmy.net that it's download speeds are slower than the EE router gets (about 90MBps vs 140), which is surprising.

Does anyone know if there's something in the settings I need to tweak?

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

@Phenoplastic   a quick look at the specs does not look promising!

G.fast supports up to bandwidth 106 MHz

Maybe this is beyond my understanding, but how is  106Mhz bandwidth limiting data to 90Mbps?

It's reporting connected at 159Mbps:

Router status: DSL WAN Rx:159824 Tx:27583 (Kbps)

And, weirdly, when I connect via Wi-Fi, it's faster, getting reported speeds of about 120Mbps.

Well my reading of it is that it does not have the throughput to cope with speeds faster than 106Mbps.

That said, the  ZYXEL community would be a better place to ask the question.

@Mustrum : That's MHz not Mbps!

@Phenoplastic : Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your full router stats for both routers:

  • For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings > System > DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.
  • For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Information. Obscure your names & any numbers in the BB Username & also the SSIDs.
  • For other routers: login to it according to the label on it as the admin user & navigate looking for its router/connection statistics.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2.  What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.
