Hi all

Just wondering if you can help im currently with BT using the smart hub 2, ive constantly had problems with it dropping out, routers changed, engineers come and go (if they turn up).

Anyway, EE have offered to upgrade me, there is just the two of us in a 3 story house, we don't game but we have a number of smart devices, TVS, Alexas, Plugs, Laptops etc usual stuff.

We currently have 150mps with BT, we are looking to upgrade to 550mps, is this just a faster speed?  Also for £10 extra a month they are offering Smart Hub Pro and Smart Wifi Pro, is this worth it and what is the benifits.  Does this hub replace the Smart Hub 2 router or is this an addition.

I really don't know much about Wifi so any help appreciated.

Thanks

The EE SH Pro is WiFi7 enabled & only be of benefit if you have any WIfI7 enabled devices.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

What is a WiFi7 device? I don’t really know what it means.

I mainly want to ensure I have a good strong fast signal all over the house (3 stories). What would be best for that?

thanks

@2blue2handle Two benefits to the new router and extender, 1. is future proof when you get the new wi-fi 7 devices, 2. the Extender will help you reach further with the Wireless signal, and you also can get up to 3 in total if needed but start with the one and see how it goes....

So the WiFi 7 is an extender, is it worth £10 a month or should I try without it first.

Thanks

@2blue2handle NO you have got the idea wrong, will post the links below about the router and re the smart wireless, they go together hand in hand, just take a look when you get time, Wi-Fi 7 is the latest and newest standard... With the new router you have to be on a Full Fibre connection, FTTP to the home...

@2blue2handle  Until you work out / get your drop outs sorted there is no point in upgrading or paying more money to still have the same issues.

EE use the same lines as BT, so what have the engineers said is the issue?

Ok so all this stuff just makes it faster and won’t solve the drop out, thanks.

They don’t know, they come and say there is no problem, and keep ordering me new routers which only solves it for a short while.

The last one did mention about did I have any Extenders or TP link,  said no as didn’t think I did.   Only the other day I noticed when I had cctv installed that there was a TP plug thing, no idea what it is, but when I unplug it the internet seems to work better but my cctv stops.

im at a bit of a loss at what to do really as i dont really understand theses things and was hoping changing would resolve it.

appreciate everyone’s comments

@2blue2handle If you are really serious about what needs to be done, EE have a Guide service, they can send some one round take a look what/where/why/when and recommend to you the needful, it is a chargeable service but is also included in some off the packages. You just do not know what is possibly causing your issues just now, and finding out CCTV and having the TP-Link to extend the wireless signal so it works, just sometimes everything appears to be OK, then couple months down the line issues start to creep in slowly and things get forgotten, software gets updated on TP's or CCTV's etc then it all goes pear shaped.
