I have several Smart sockets outside the house - all were working fine, they connect over 2.4GHz to Internet.
Recently they all stopped working, at a 240V level I can use them manually but they will not connect to the App. When I try to 'Add' device, it cannot find a device on the network
After a few days of frustration..... I unwired one socket and powered it up in the house alongside the router and connected OK .... but as soon as I move it back to the required location, it will not connect.
The outlet locations have not moved and the house & router have not moved ..... assuming my Wifi is the issue.
For connection, I have to turn off 5GHz (common for many devices), but once the connection is made I can turn 5GHz back on and it continues to work OK.
Is there anything that I can do to increase WiFi signal strength ..... tried an EE extender, makes no difference.
I tried contacting EE support but all I get is an option to use SMS service, and it drops the call. Can you speak to a person anymore ?

What is the name of the EE BB plan you are on including its speed? Which EE router & WiFi extenders, if any, do you have (read label or post a pix)? If you have a current EE router, try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings (it defaults to 2.4 GHz & WPA2) & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz devices to that.

@Posiedon What do you mean by outside off the house also, you may be pushing the limits even to get the 2.4Ghz signal outside to help keep them up and connected.... As you requested.

Plan is FullFibre Gigabit
Dowdload 932 Mbps Upload 110 Mps
Not aware of 'compatible wifi' is that an addition to 2.4GHz & 5Ghz or instead of these.
Can you share anymore info on that.
Just had comment for EE support than WiFi Routers age, and as mine is 2 years old, they are sending a new one.

They are smart sockets in the garden, and worked fine for 2 years.
I do have an EE Extender at the nearest point of the house.

@Posiedon Take your mobile phone outside, see if it connects on the 2.4Ghz wireless wifi band... Take it you have powered of Hub and the Extender to reset and see if your sockets reconnect also? If the Extender is the closest to the sockets, then that is were the 2.4Ghz band will be coming from,

A thought are the WiFi Discs directional ? or if I put a clam shell shaped foil shield behind it would it focus output. Rememebr seeing a FB post on this but don't know if it works.

It's a parallel WiFi network that operates alongside the Main WiFi network. It is provided for older devices to connect when they are not compatible with the Main network. The main diff is that it operates with WPA2 security rather than the newer WPA3. I've given you directions on how to navigate to set it up.

Hi @Posiedon
Buy a better router than the free one which comes with your service.
Short and long term it will prove to be a better option.
Thanks
