Hi all, I’ve been trying to fix a wi-fi issue with my MSI laptop for a while and at this point I’m running out of ideas so any suggestions would be really helpful!
The current problem is that the internet to my device (an MSi katana 15 laptop) keeps being automatically “paused”. The device remains on the network (and can see other connected devices), but cannot connect to the internet until either it is manually unpaused in the app. The internet connection has returned after a number of hours in the past, but this is unpredictable.
I only have this issue when connecting to the specific we router of my flat (a pro hub 7): the issue never sees to occur on any other network. Some solutions I have tried:
- Restarting router / laptop: this does not resolve the issue
- Forgetting and rejoining the network: This has sporadically fixed the issue for a short period, but is not a guaranteed fix either
- Reinstalling my WiFi adapter (Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160MHz) and its drivers
- Installing a Linux dual boot and connecting from a different OS to windows.
- Purchasing a wireless dongle to use instead of my WiFi adapter.
- Forcing a connection to a specific wireless band (this did not work at all)
- Enabling guest WiFi on the router and connecting specifically to the guest WiFi (this fixed the problem completely, but is not a viable long term solution due to security concerns).
I’m convinced that *something* must be occurring to cause my WiFi to be paused by the router. It only seems to happen to my device, and always unpredictably. I believe the solutions I’ve tried must rule out a large number of potential software / hardware causes.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this to occur? A feature called “advanced web protect” is active on the router, but when I tried disabling it while I was experiencing the issue there was no change.
Can anybody offer advice on how I can diagnose / resolve the issue? I’m starting to go a little insane with how frequently it seems to cause me problems!
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings & connect your problematic devices to that.
