Switching from Sky copper connection

switchquestion
Visitor

Hi,

I'm considering switching to EE fibre broadband after having a bad experience with Sky trying to upgrade our current copper broadband to fibre with them.

However, I really want to make sure that the Sky copper connection is not switched off before the EE fibre is active - there is very little mobile signal where I am (on EE or otherwise...) so, without broadband, there is no internet.

I can't find anything in EE's guidance which says how they manage a switch from copper to fibre.

What can I do to make sure the Sky copper service is not disconnected before the EE fibre is active?

Thank you

You BB migration will be handled by OFCOM's One Touch Switch (OTS) process which will ensure that once your new service is working, your old service should cease automatically & any loss of service should not last longer than one working day.

As FTTC/copper and FTTP/full fibre are completely separate technologies, you could have the EE fibre put in as a separate service, rather than a “switch”.

You would have to make it crystal clear to EE that this was a separate install and not a switch.

Once it is up and running you can then talk to Sky about terminating with them.

Of course, the downside is that you will have to pay for both services during the overlap and it will complicate the porting of any phone number you want transferred.

You also need to remember that Sky may charge a sizable early termination fee if you are still within the minimum contract term.

To the extent that if you transfer your landline to EE it will also auto cancel your BB with Sky as it hosts their BB (FTTC or ADSL you don't say).
